SPRING CLASS UPDATES

7 Apr 2020 by Alycia Carlson

Dear JMD Studios Dance Family,

Thank you for your patience through these uncertain times. I wanted to update you on what our plans are moving forward and what we are hoping to accomplish during this temporary shut down of JMD Studios. Our primary goals are to keep the children engaged and treat our families with kindness. We know that at some point we will be back in the studio dancing so we are keeping our sights on that day and doing our best to move forward with that thought and hope in the front of our minds.

Keeping these goals front and center we have decided the following…

THE CITY IS REFUNDING SPRING TUITION

The city informed me today they will be refunding tuition for all classes that were held after March 14th. Please note if you have further questions you would need to contact them. Once we are able to get back into class you would need to re-register for the mini session that will conclude with the recital.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM:

If you have not joined our virtual classroom please do so now. You can download the APP on your mobile, tablet or visit the website on your laptop where nothing has to be downloaded. On there we have pre-recorded mini classes for each age group and videos of all recital dances. We also have a few LIVE ZOOM classes coming up soon and the teachers will be providing you with videos of the remaining steps on recital choreography so your dancer can continue to learn their recital dances virtually! PLEASE take advantage of this virtual classroom. We will add to it regularly. A link is provided below to join.

RECITAL PLANS:

Please know we are fully aware that we may need to re-think how we do the recital this year. We have a few contingency plans lined up and I want to share those with you. Please keep in mind that we would like to have a recital at some point as costumes have been ordered, paid in full and are all in production, at the studio waiting to be passed out or have already been passed out. We are unable to return recital costumes so our goal is to have a show at some point, even if we have to make adjustments.

Recital Contingency plans:

1) Holding recital on June 20th as scheduled. If we are able to resume classes by June 1st AND we are allowed to have crowds of a moderate size we are considering keeping the original date. We understand we may need to only do a few classes at a time… several mini-recitals throughout the day … but we will do our best to make the day special for our dancers. Of course we need your help by joining our virtual classroom to continue preparations.

2) Backup recital date of Saturday August 1st. We have held a backup date with the school for August 1st. This is a very attractive option as we have a better chance of holding the event as we envisioned by moving it later into the summer. We are encouraging all families to hold this date as a backup. If we do go with this option we will continue to have classes up until this date. So classes would run from the date we are able to get back in the studio through August 1st. Again, participation in our virtual classroom is vital for this plan

3) Canceling the recital. This is our last resort. We understand everyone has purchased costumes that we cannot return or cancel so we are hoping it doesn’t come to this. If it does we will do our very best to take care of our families in the absolute best way we can. To help us out: If you have already gotten your costume PLEASE keep it put away, in it’s original packaging in a smoke free area. It is important to keep them in unused condition.

IN CLOSING

Please know we are doing our very best to navigate these unprecedented events and treat our families with kindness and support during this time. We do humbly ask for a little leeway to figure all of this out and see where we are in a few weeks before we decide to move to our alternate recital plans. I know things are up in the air at this point and unfortunately we don’t have concrete answers at this time. The world is on “pause” as is our beloved dance studio. In addition to doing right by our families we are also doing everything in our power to have studio doors to open when the dust settles. It’s scary and the wheels are turning very slow as far as any aid to small business owners. So we do so very much appreciate the kindness and understanding we have received thus far. I am confident that we will be back together dancing in the future.

Yours in Dance,

Miss A
